Push Button 22mm With Box    Over the past decade or so, just about every major watch maker has gravitated toward retro-inspired designs. Many of these brands lack a significant history of their own, instead creating their heritage out of a whole piece of fabric. However, Longines doesn’t need to fake  Push Button 22mm With Box   anything. With its status as one of the oldest and historically prestigious Swiss watchmakers, Longines has plenty of material in its back catalog to tap into for inspiration. As a result, the brand’s vintage reissues are not only numerous, but among the best in the industry, and one of Longines’ most popular offerings is its Legend Diver.Curious about the real performance of the watch, we got the legendary Longines diver to check it out for himself.  Push Button 22mm With Box

This is a watch that really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, so we recommend you check out our detailed video review of the Longines Legend Diver on our YouTube channel.
The first time I saw the legendary Longines diver in person, what immediately stood out was how amazing it was.Despite its mid-century origins and retro styling, this isn’t a refined timepiece – far from out of reach. Its case is on the larger side, the lugs last for days, and it’s fully polished so it shines.Combine the striking case with the same polished stainless steel mesh bracelet, vintage-inspired black dial, and tall box crystal, and you’ve got a head-turning metal.
As we mentioned, the Legend Diver’s case is fully polished, so if you like contrasting finishes, you won’t find what you’re looking for here. However, if you appreciate beauty in simplicity, you’ll be more than happy with this diver’s case.It has a thin bezel, a relatively thin profile, and gorgeous long, curved lugs.Speaking of lugs, they might be a little too long.Longines has a reputation for placing long lugs on its modern sports cases, and that’s certainly true here, with lugs adding a full 10mm of length to the not-quite-small 42mm case size. This makes the watch a bit overwhelming for smaller wrists, but luckily Longines does offer a 36mm version of the watch, so that’s a moot point.Otherwise, we really like the case design because the double cross-hatched crown adds a nice touch (the case is styled to look like a super compressor, but it’s not really a super compressor case), The scuba diver pattern on the back of the case is another fun, retro nod.Push Button 22mm With Box
The retro style of Longines’ legendary diver is carried over greatly on the dial, and this is where the brand’s touch of elegant historic revival really comes in handy. The black lacquered dial is busy and beautiful, and the vintage-colored print can be seen almost everywhere.Arabic index marks 12, 6 and 9, color matching (including font color) date window replaces index at 3.There are long hash marks on the minute indicator, the entire chronograph dial is matched with a pleasingly symmetrical bezel inside and numeral labels every 15 minutes with a triangle at 12 o’clock.Offset by bold spade hour hands and simple baton minute and baton seconds hands, the dial is a rounded vintage stunner that wears its rich markings well.
As if the double-crown setup and the inner rotating bezel weren’t enough to set the Longines legendary diver apart from the diver’s watch crowd, Longines also went the extra mile and outfitted the watch with a rather rare bracelet.Rather than offering a variant of the three-link Oyster bracelet for the Legend Diver like most of its competitors, Longines opted for the more interesting stainless steel mesh bracelet.Fully polished like the case, the two-button clasp features a cross-hatch and a safety latch with a winged hourglass logo, and the bracelet is comfortable and sharp in appearance, furthering the watch’s distinctive vintage style. One thing to note: the watch can only be adjusted this way, and if your wrist is smaller than 6.25 inches, you may not be able to fit the bracelet small enough. This is another reason why people with smaller wrists should consider the 36mm version.
There is a lot of debate in the watch world as to whether Longines’ exclusive ETA-based movement should count as an in-house movement. After all, both Longines and ETA are members of the Swatch Group, and the two companies work together when developing exclusive movements.Whichever side of the debate you’re on, the L888 movement in the Legend Diver isn’t one of Longines’ more prestigious movements. This is a modified ETA 2892, revs down to 25,200bph for a 72-hour power reserve. This is a very functional and robust movement that offers decent precision, nothing to write home about, but it does the job and fits in this price range.
Not surprisingly, where the legendary Longines diver really shines is on the wrist – literally. Its fully polished makeup shines through and truly sets the scene, and its rather rare retro design really makes a sleek and eye-catching statement on the wrist. We’ve never seen Don Draper wear a diver’s watch in Mad Men — he’s wearing a dress watch or the occasional Rolex Explorer — but it’s easy to imagine this will be his diver of choice. While the Legend Diver is on the large side, especially with those long, long lugs, its relatively slim and curved construction allows it to fit comfortably on many wrists.
If you’re looking for a vintage-inspired diver and not just another “big crown” Rolex Submariner, then you should seriously consider the Longines Legend Diver. One of the historic brand’s signature models, the Legend Diver’s unique design and retro-cool aesthetic make it the perfect choice for discerning watch collectors looking to stand out.
